In a decisive operation, the Ghana Police Service's Northern Regional Special Operations Team, colloquially known as "Red Maria", has apprehended 15 suspected narcotics peddlers in coordinated raids in Tamale and Savelugu.

The operation, orchestrated by Superintendent John Danso and ASP Rashid Jeremiah with a team of 35 personnel, unfolded on the night of March 17 and early hours of March 18.

According to a police situational report, the team initially targeted Choggu in Tamale, resulting in the arrest of nine suspects found in possession of suspected illicit substances. The operation subsequently shifted to Savelugu, where six additional suspects were taken into custody at approximately 5 a.m.

All 15 suspects are currently assisting with investigations, police confirmed. This latest crackdown underscores the police's resolute efforts to combat narcotics trafficking and associated activities in the Northern Region.

The Red Maria team's relentless pursuit of law enforcement aims to restore security and stability in the region.
