Ophelia Mitchell, Vice President of the All Nigerian Community (ANC) Ghana and a former presidential aspirant, has withdrawn allegations she made against Nigeria’s Acting High Commissioner to Ghana, Ambassador Dayo Adeoye, and issued an apology.
Mitchell had previously accused the Ambassador of interfering in the ANC Ghana electoral process and influencing the presidential race.
In a statement on April 28, 2026, she said her earlier remarks were made in the heat of frustration over election disputes. After a “meeting of solidarity” with patrons and the High Commissioner, she said the issues were resolved amicably.
“Upon further reflection, I recognise that some of my remarks may have misrepresented the role and intentions of Ambassador Adeoye,” Mitchell said. “I wish to sincerely apologise to His Excellency for my earlier comments. I regret the discomfort my words may have caused.”
She added that electoral grievances within community organisations should be handled through dialogue and internal mechanisms in a fair and just resolution in the future.
