The Universal Friendship Organization Ghana (UFO Ghana) commends the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for presenting a mediation report to President John Mahama, highlighting his commitment to promoting peace and stability in Ghana.
This commendable effort underscores the importance of collaboration between government and traditional authorities in achieving national development.
The Bawku chieftaincy dispute has had a devastating impact on the people of Bawku and its environs. Over 200 people have lost their lives since November 2021, with many more injured and displaced.
Properties have been destroyed, and the conflict has disrupted healthcare services, crippled local economic development, and damaged infrastructure.
Furthermore, the conflict has deepened divisions between the Kusasis and Mamprusis, creating social mistrust and fear, and resulting in the displacement of over 30,000 people.
In light of this, the UFO Ghana believes that the Asantehene's mediation report is a significant step towards resolving the conflict.
We urge all stakeholders to respect and consider the recommendations of the report and adhere to the decisions taken by both families. By working together, we can pave the way for the Bawku environs to achieve the development they seek.
As an organization, we believe that this report will go a long way in maintaining peace and stability among the people of Bawku and its environs. We also believe that the Asantehene's efforts will not go waste but rather yield a good result for the betterment of Ghana's peace. We, therefore, urge the parties to welcome this report and all recommendations for the interest of Ghana's peace development.
In conclusion, the UFO Ghana commends the Asantehene for his commitment to promoting peace and stability in Ghana. We believe that collective commitment to peace and stability is crucial for Ghana's development, and we urge all stakeholders to support the Asantehene's peace initiatives. By working together, we can build a peaceful and prosperous Ghana for all.
