Nii Lante Vanderpuye, National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Program, has cautioned the National Democratic Congress (NDC) against pursuing a review of the Supreme Court's ruling on the Kpandai parliamentary election, stating that doing so would be a waste of time and money. On Thursday, January 29, Vanderpuye made the case on Channel One TV's Breakfast Daily that protracted election-related litigation frequently lasts for years without yielding significant results, depleting the vitality and morale of those involved.
Such legal disputes, in his opinion, tend to undermine political candidates and parties rather than improve them. He maintained that it is better to accept the result and reorganise going forward when there is no solid factual or legal foundation for a review.
"Your life does not end when you fall.Sometimes it's better to take a step back, think things out, and then return. I will advise them to approach the Supreme Court to review their ruling if they believe there is sufficient evidence and facts. However, aside from that, I believe the workout will be ineffective," he stated. His remarks coincide with the NDC's declaration that the matter is not over and that it plans to request a review of the Supreme Court's decision after reviewing the certified accurate copy of the ruling.
The Tamale High Court's order to nullify the results of the parliamentary election in the Northern Region's Kpandai Constituency was overturned by the Supreme Court on Wednesday, January 28. This judgment also prevented the Electoral Commission from holding the election's scheduled rerun.
