Business magnate and philanthropist Michael Danquah, popularly known as Merdarlock, has been named Educational Impact Personality of the Year by the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), in recognition of his exceptional contributions to education and youth empowerment in Ghana.

Accepting the honour, Danquah reaffirmed his commitment to supporting students, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, through philanthropy and mentorship.

“I’m still in the philanthropic spirit—impacting and supporting students to reach their goals through financial support and mentorship,” he said. “Education is the most sustainable way to change lives and build our nation.”

The award highlights Danquah’s sustained efforts to uplift Ghana’s youth through a variety of educational initiatives. Over the years, his work has included providing scholarships, educational materials, and life-changing mentorship opportunities for countless students.

The recognition follows his recent humanitarian effort, the M-lock Feed the Street initiative, held on Boxing Day across Nima, Kwame Nkrumah Circle, and nearby communities. The outreach provided hot meals, basic supplies, and cash gifts to hundreds of underprivileged individuals, aiming to spread festive cheer and restore dignity to vulnerable populations.

Following the success of the programme, Danquah announced that Feed the Street will become an annual event, with additional biannual outreach events planned specifically for widows and widowers across the country.

His continued commitment to education and social inclusion has drawn praise from civil society groups, educational institutions, and community leaders, who see his work as a model for socially responsible leadership.

The Educational Impact Personality of the Year award not only honours Danquah’s personal contributions but also serves as a call to action for more private sector leaders and stakeholders to invest in Ghana’s human capital through education and social development.
