Independent Presidential Aspirant | Medical Practitioner | Educator | Transformational Leader
Background
Dr. Agnes Ayisha is a medical practitioner, educator, and transformational leader seeking to contest Ghana’s 2028 presidential elections as an independent candidate. Her public life is shaped by decades of experience in healthcare, education, ministry, and public service, and anchored in a vision of accountable leadership, strong institutions, and inclusive national development.
Her officially recognised legal name is Dr. Agnes Ayisha. She is also informally known as Awura Afua and by the adopted nickname Nana Yaa Asantewaa. While these names hold cultural and personal significance, only her legal name is used for official and statutory purposes.
Born in the Ashanti Region of Ghana but raised in the Eastern Region, Dr. Ayisha began her professional career in education, working as a teacher and demonstrating leadership early in her life. She later travelled to the United States, where she pursued further education, professional training, and public service.
Education and Training
Dr. Ayisha holds a Doctorate and graduated from New York Theological Seminary in 2018, where she specialised in Pastoral Care and Counselling. Her academic training strengthened her foundation in ethical leadership, counselling, and community development.
In the field of medicine, she trained at Boston University, specifically the Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine, where she studied medicine with a focus on Pain Management.
Healthcare Experience
Dr. Ayisha has practiced medicine for approximately three to five years. In addition, she brings over 20 years of experience in the healthcare sector, including earlier work in nursing and other healthcare-related roles.
While she was not practicing as a medical doctor throughout the entire period, she remained continuously engaged in healthcare service delivery, gaining broad exposure across patient care, clinical support, and healthcare systems. Her professional experience extends beyond Ghana, with healthcare exposure in other countries.
She speaks Twi and English fluently and has a working knowledge of Spanish and Hausa, with English remaining her primary professional and administrative language.
Public Service and Leadership
Dr. Ayisha served honourably in the United States Army, an experience that reinforced her commitment to discipline, teamwork, accountability, and national service. Across education, healthcare, ministry, military service, and community engagement, she has consistently taken on leadership responsibilities.
She describes her leadership philosophy as transformational and results-driven, grounded in teamwork, accountability, and the effective delegation of responsibility. To her, leadership is defined by service, example, and measurable outcomes rather than titles.
Policy Focus
As a medical practitioner, Dr. Ayisha advocates for a healthcare system in which every community has access to functional medical facilities, adequate staffing, and essential resources, ensuring that no citizen is denied care due to infrastructural or capacity limitations. Her healthcare experience informs her people-centred and evidence-based approach to public policy.
Her national development priorities include youth empowerment, education reform, industrialization, sustainable energy, and institutional strengthening. She is a strong advocate for ending illegal mining (galamsey), addressing Ghana’s recurring power challenges, and transitioning toward renewable energy, particularly solar power, by leveraging Ghana’s natural climate advantages.
In education, she supports curriculum reform that reflects Ghanaian realities and equips learners with practical skills aligned with national development needs. She also promotes industrial growth aimed at job creation, economic resilience, and reducing youth migration by expanding opportunities within Ghana.
Political Life
An indigene of Akuapem in the Eastern Region, Dr Ayisha was at one time aligned with the National Democratic Congress (NDC). She served as the Okere Constituency Women’s Organizer and also worked as a Returning Officer during the 1992 general elections.
Personal Life
Beyond her public life, Dr. Ayisha is a mother of two and values family as a foundation for service and leadership. She maintains a clear balance between personal privacy and public accountability.
Outlook
Dr. Agnes Ayisha is a transformational visionary leader with a medical background who represents a disciplined and visionary leadership profile, positioning herself as part of a new generation committed to building a self-reliant Ghana, strengthening democratic institutions, and contributing to Africa’s long-term progress.
