According to a video posted by GHOne TV, a 30-year-old mother in Ghana's Central Region allegedly murdered her two small children before killing herself.

The horrific occurrence occurred on Sunday in the tranquil community of Awutu Breku.

When neighbors observed the residence was unusually silent, they got concerned about the family's well-being and contacted police.

When officers arrived, they discovered a locked entrance to the home. After pushing their way inside, they discovered the children's lifeless bodies, aged five and two.

The mother is said to have used a sharp machete, called locally as a "panga," in this heinous deed. Following the deaths, she allegedly committed suicide in the family's modest backyard.

The local police have confirmed that investigations are underway, with preliminary indications indicating that mental health difficulties may have played a role in her conduct.

The bodies of the children and their mother were transported to the Central Regional Hospital for autopsy. Authorities are also investigating the possibility that the scene was staged, however this is still considered speculation at this time.

Ghana's mental health professionals are concerned about an increase in domestic violence and suicides. They identify a variety of issues, including economic hardship, unemployment, and societal pressures, as contributing to many communities' mental health crises.

"It's heartbreaking to see such tragedies," said Dr. Nana Yaa Agyemang, a local psychotherapist. "We need to provide more support for individuals struggling with mental health issues to prevent future incidents."

Just a few months ago, a similar instance shook a nearby region when a father hurt his children before committing suicide due to a family conflict.
