Over thirty students at Sawla Senior High School (SHS) in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region have been suspended indefinitely.
The bulk of those suspended are female students who are suspected of violating Ghana Education Service (GES) norms and regulations by taking cell phones to school.
According to sources within the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Directorate of GES, the suspended kids are also involved in numerous immoral acts while at school.
A seven-member committee formed by the school administration to investigate the situation found all of the pupils guilty of the claims, resulting in their suspension.
Sawla Senior High School has made headlines recently for issues such as inappropriate tutor-student relationships. Some accused of misbehavior were fired, while others were suspended.
However, evidence reaching us indicates that several parents, who allege they were not officially told of the suspensions, are contesting the school's actions.
One parent expressed concern, stating, "If I entrusted my child into your care, why should I be asked to send her packing without receiving official notification about the students involved?" "What kind of management is this?"
Another mom, Ferida Issahaku, expressed her dissatisfaction with the school's choice to act unilaterally, without consulting the parents. "I only learned about the suspension from a friend. I should have been notified, and perhaps even gone to get her. Madam Ferida Issahaku stated, "She has not returned as of yet, and we have no idea where she is."
The school's dismal academic performance in the 2022 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) drew attention, since it finished last, along with its home region, the Savannah Region, which also ranked last in Ghana.
