Ghanaian football has been rocked by tragedy with the stabbing death of Francis Yaw Frimpong, often known as Nana Pooley, a loyal Asante Kotoko fan. The shocking incident took place on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at Nana Kromansah Park in Nsoatre during a Ghana Premier League Matchweek 19 match between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC.
According to an official statement from Asante Kotoko, the tragic altercation occurred in the second half of the match. While the exact origin of the confrontation is unknown, indications indicate that tensions had been mounting due to Asante Kotoko's unfriendly behavior since their arrival at the stadium.
Eyewitnesses characterized the game as violent and intimidating, with Asante Kotoko players, officials, and supporters being targeted by home fans. Missiles were thrown toward Kotoko's bench several times, resulting in a violent atmosphere.
The situation deteriorated further when the club's Head of Media sustained a significant ear injury after being hit by an item.

Nana Pooley was repeatedly attacked and stabbed during the mayhem. He was brought to Sunyani Regional Hospital in a frantic bid to save his life, but his injuries proved fatal.
The horrific occurrence has prompted fury and sorrow among Ghanaian football fans, with many demanding justice and improved protection at matches.
