Fred Tetteh, Deputy Director of Research at the Electoral Commission (EC), has stated that the Commission is ready to complete the collation of parliamentary results for Ablekuma North.
The process, which had been delayed due to security concerns, was first set to resume on January 4, 2025, by a High Court directive. The European Commission was tasked with concluding and declaring the results of four pending parliamentary elections.
Collation for Ablekuma North, the final remaining constituency, started on January 8, 2025, but was suspended due to incomplete results from three voting stations. The exercise was postponed for January 17, 2025, at 8:00 a.m. However, intelligence reports caused the Ghana Police Service to warn against proceeding, resulting in more delays.
Despite this, the EC stated in a statement made on January 17 that the police had not provided enough security at the collation center, resulting in party supporters entering the venue.
Mr. Tetteh told Citi FM in Accra on Thursday that the EC is ready to move on with the collation and final declaration if security concerns are resolved.
"In terms of the status as of now, the Commission is ready to go ahead to complete the three polling stations that are left to be added for the final declaration to be made," said the spokesperson.
He stressed that the EC had taken proactive measures.
"We have requested that the police provide us with security because we do not want what happened on January 17 to occur again. We are merely waiting for the police to give us with protection before proceeding with the three polling booths. "The results are ready for us to simply add up and declare the winner," he explained.
