A fervent campaign is gaining traction from within the Builsa North Constituency and on social media especially, urging
President John Dramani Mahama to appoint their MP, James Agalga, as the next Minister for Defense, who will replace the late Dr. Omane Boamah.

The call comes in the wake of a tragic helicopter disaster that has created a vacancy at the Defense Ministry.

A social media post by "Abakisi Akangagnang Lawrence, a development activist" highlighted Agalga's extensive parliamentary experience and deep knowledge in the security sector, arguing for his elevation to the key ministerial role.

Mr. Agalga, who has been the MP for Builsa North Constituency in the Upper East Region since entering Parliament in 2012, is currently serving a fourth consecutive term—a "record fourth term" according to the post—having successfully "withstanding competition within his party and against the NPP."

The post detailed his "12 years as a legislator and counting," noting his significant previous roles, including Deputy Minister of Interior, Ranking Member on the Defense and Interior Sub-Committee of Parliament, and currently, the Chairperson of the same Committee.

"That our MP has gained significant knowledge in the security of our country is not in dispute. His contributions on the floor of Parliament on matters bordering on security are often crisp, novel and demonstrative of his vast accumulated knowledge and experience in the sector," the post asserted.

The author claimed that Mr. Agalga was previously "overlooked in the first round of ministerial appointments" due to the President's need to "ensure a regional and ethnic balance to meet the constitutional threshold of appointing ministers."

However, with the critical vacancy now available, the post confidently states, "Agalga, has served the NDC well, he has the competence to lead the Defense Ministry and continue the good works of his departed colleague."

The message concluded with a direct appeal to the former President: "John Dramani Mahama, we the people of the Builsa North Constituency are still waiting for you to honor your promise to us and we believe and trust that this time, you will allow our MP and brother to serve the country with his talents."

The campaign underscores the constituents' belief in Mr. Agalga's capability to steer the nation's defense apparatus.
