The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has officially instructed GES and WAEC to revert Ghana’s academic calendar to its pre-COVID structure, ensuring consistency with the broader West African system and smoother student transitions.

“Restore pre-COVID academic calendar,” the Minister directed, urging both institutions to collaborate swiftly in adjusting timelines for the school year and national examinations.

He reiterated this call at the WAEC Distinction Awards, emphasizing:
“GES and WAEC must work together to restore an acceptable calendar, one that is in sync with the rest of the West African system.”

To reinforce timely student feedback, the Minister has also pressed WAEC for an early release of BECE results to alleviate candidate anxiety.
