Asuogyaman's District Chief Executive (DCE), Mavis Opokua Akunnor, has accused Okomfo Addo, the constituency secretary, of embezzling campaign funds intended for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's and Pius Enam Hadzide's "ways and means" operations.
This revelation was made by the enraged DCE after a confrontation with some constituency executives following Pius Hadzide's loss in the elections held on December 7.
Okomfo Addo allegedly embezzled GH₵450,000 intended for campaign activities, according to the DCE, who also claimed that he postponed the distribution of the monies to voters while requesting more money.
"You were given GH₵4.5 billion (old cedis) at 8 a.m., but you refused to share it for hours at the Green Hotel, demanding payment of the remaining amount," she said.
Mavis Akunnor further charged Okomfo Addo with misappropriating and taking monies from the constituency account, as well as wasting funds intended for Dr. Bawumia's campaign. "You were seen drinking at a pub near Goil on election day, at a crucial moment, rather than organising for the party," she accused.
The DCE also charged Cynthia Quoffie and the constituency secretary with sabotaging Pius Enam Hadzide's parliamentary campaign. The furious DCE further claimed that because Hadzide was Ewe, several Akwamu natives in the party conspired against him.
Okomfo Addo was chastised by the DCE for reportedly planning a smear campaign against her by giving party members instructions to call her conceited. She bemoaned the lack of togetherness and implied that the party's dismal showing in the constituency was a result of internal strife.
Tension has arisen within the NPP as a result of its loss in Asuogyaman, with claims of sabotage, poor leadership, and a lack of dedication taking centre stage in conversations.
