The Volta Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has extended its deepest condolences to the families of the six young Ghanaians who lost their lives in a tragic stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium during a military recruitment exercise.

In a statement, Hon. Mawutor Agbavitor, Chairman of the NDC in the Volta Region, described the incident as a national tragedy that should never have happened. He called for an independent investigation into the incident, emphasizing that the military recruitment process must be transparent and fair, without any form of favoritism or politicization.

The Ghana Armed Forces has confirmed the deaths of six potential recruits and reported that 28 others were injured, with five in intensive care and 12 in critical condition. The military has suspended recruitment activities in Accra indefinitely and launched an internal investigation into the incident.

Hon. Agbavitor urged Ghanaians to come together to support the affected families and called for improved safety measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future. The US Embassy has also expressed its condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims.

As the nation mourns the loss of these young lives, Hon. Agbavitor has assured the youth of Ghana that there are great days ahead. "While we are saddened by this tragedy, we must not lose sight of the many opportunities that lie ahead for our young people," he said. "Ghana is a land of abundance and potential, and with the right leadership and opportunities, our youth can achieve greatness." He urged the youth to remain hopeful and focused, and to continue to strive for excellence in their endeavors.

The Volta Regional NDC has announced plans to visit the bereaved families and offer support in this difficult time. The party's condolence message reads: "The Volta Regional NDC extends its deepest sympathies to the families of the deceased. May their souls rest in peace. May God comfort the bereaved families and grant them the strength to bear their loss."
