A member of the New Patriotic Party’s National Communication Team, Senyo Amekplenu, has taken a swipe at United Party (UP) spokesperson Solomon Owusu, accusing him of engaging in “red herring” arguments and constantly shifting the goalpost whenever critical questions are posed.
Reacting to Owusu’s recent comments on the Kpandai election rerun and saying ‘the saddest thing to have happen in Ghana was digging a hole with $97 million’, Amekplenu said the UP spokesperson avoids addressing the real legal and electoral issues, choosing instead to divert public attention with political rhetoric.
Speaking on the controversy surrounding the annulled Kpandai parliamentary results, Senyo Amekplenu argued that the matter before the courts is purely legal and should be treated as such.
He insisted that attempts by Solomon Owusu to frame the issue as a test of popularity or voter love were misleading and irrelevant to the substantive questions of law.
According to him, the NPP’s decision to seek clarification and redress at the Supreme Court is within its constitutional rights and should not be misconstrued as fear of a rerun.
Mr. Amekplenu further stressed that public discourse on the Kpandai matter must be grounded in facts and respect for due process.
