Communication expert and legal practitioner Zakaria Tanko Musah has argued that the right incentives could motivate many Ghanaians to relocate from urban centres to less populated areas, helping to ease the growing social and economic pressures on them after relocating.

Speaking on the GTV Breakfast show, he noted that urban dwellers often struggle with rising costs of living, congestion, and limited opportunities, challenges that are compounded by the expectations and demands of extended family and friends who are also concentrated in these areas.

According to him, providing targeted incentives would make the option of settling elsewhere more attractive and sustainable.

Tanko Musah explained that the pressure individuals face in rural areas ranging from constant financial requests to the overwhelming social obligations associated with rural living often forces people into economic hardship.

He stressed that if government and private stakeholders could introduce benefits, many would willingly migrate. Such incentives, he added, would not only reduce population density in cities but also improve the quality of life for those who choose to move.

He further highlighted that balanced national development hinges on encouraging movement away from overburdened urban zones and investing in underserved communities.
