Actor and social commentator Oscar Provencial has strongly criticized Members of Parliament who are calling for the scrapping of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), describing their position as hypocritical and self-serving.

Speaking on the GTV Breakfast, Provencial argued that if the standard for abolishing state institutions is based on perceived lack of impact, then Parliament itself should also be questioned, as many Ghanaians are yet to feel the direct positive impact of MPs on governance and accountability.

According to him, the Office of the Special Prosecutor was established to independently fight corruption, a problem that has plagued Ghana’s governance system for decades.

Oscar Provencial noted that instead of undermining the OSP, lawmakers should be supporting and strengthening the office to enable it function effectively. He accused some MPs of deliberately frustrating the work of the OSP because of personal and political interests, rather than prioritizing the national fight against corruption.

The actor further challenged Parliament to lead by example by passing stronger laws, ensuring proper resourcing of accountability institutions, and holding the executive in check.

He emphasized that public frustration with governance stems from unfulfilled promises, weak oversight, and partisan politics in Parliament.
