Ho, Volta Region - A former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), Abdul-Wahab Hannan, is facing criminal charges for allegedly embezzling GHS 78 million in state funds, sparking outrage and calls for swift justice.
Elikem Tsorme Buoh Communications Team Member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has demanded expeditious prosecution of Hannan and his accomplices, emphasizing that "Justice Delayed is Justice Denied". Tsorme stressed that stolen funds should be recovered before commensurate sentences are handed down, highlighting the stark contrast between Hannan's lavish spending and the needs of poor communities.
"The stolen funds should be recovered before commensurate sentences handed down to them. A watch that costs 1.5 million Ghana cedis can build many boreholes to provide potable water for poor communities," Tsorme said on the GBC Volta Star Radio Show with Tony Mark-Boye, adding "There's more to come".
According to Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine, Hannan and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, used the stolen money to acquire luxury properties, including a $1.6 million mansion, a 17-bedroom hotel, and 61 designer handbags valued at $248,000. The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has frozen the couple's assets, including a GHS 10 million fixed deposit account and several vehicles.
The investigation revealed that Hannan and his accomplices diverted funds meant for the School Feeding Programme and food suppliers, leaving many unpaid and schoolchildren without nutrition. The Attorney General has announced plans to file charges against Hannan and his wife, including stealing, conspiracy to steal, and money laundering, by October 24, 2025.
