Ho, Volta Region - Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and aspirant for the party's flagbearer position, has emphasized the importance of unity and strong leadership in the party's quest for power.

Addressing party delegates at the St. Francis of Asisi Cathedral in Ho, Agyapong stressed that the NPP's primary focus should be on the welfare of ordinary Ghanaians. "Party politics for us as Ghanaians is about the welfare of the ordinary Ghanaians," he declared, setting the tone for his vision of a party focused on the needs of the Ghanaian people.

Agyapong lamented that the party's founding principles have been lost sight of, saying, "Our party was never founded on money. It was founded on principles." He emphasized the need for strong leaders with character and emotional intelligence, stating, "We need strong leaders. Leaders who have character. Leaders who have emotional intelligence."

According to Agyapong, such leaders should have a deep understanding of the party's history and traditions. "We need a leader who has a strong institutional memory of this tradition," he said.

Agyapong stressed that unity is crucial for the party's success, especially given Ghana's history of tyranny. "Unity is key. We're coming from a chequered history of tyranny," he noted. He portrayed himself as a unifying force within the party, saying, "I'm an embodiment of unity for the party... I'm the glue that holds the party together."

On the issue of dissent and defection, Agyapong was clear: "About dissent, defection and showdowns, we're Democrats. Once one wins, we all support the person." He urged party members to put aside their differences and work towards a common goal.

Agyapong's message comes against the backdrop of internal party tensions and disagreements. However, his words struck a chord with party delegates, who are looking for a leader who can unite the party and lead it to victory. As the party prepares for future electoral battles, Agyapong's leadership and vision are set to play a pivotal role in shaping its fortunes.
