Spokesperson for the United Party, Solomon Owusu, has challenged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over its decision to seek redress at the Supreme Court following the High Court’s ruling to annul the 2024 parliamentary results in the Kpandai constituency.

According to him, the move by the NPP raises questions about the party’s confidence in its own popularity among the electorate. He argued that if the party truly believes it enjoys the support of voters in Kpandai, it should welcome a re-run of the election rather than attempt to overturn the court’s decision.

Speaking on the matter, Owusu maintained that elections are the ultimate test of political legitimacy and public acceptance. He stressed that a re-run would provide a fair opportunity for all parties to present themselves to the people once again, free from the irregularities that led to the annulment of the results.

In his view, taking the matter to the Supreme Court instead of preparing for the polls gives the impression of fear and uncertainty, which undermines public confidence in the democratic process.

Solomon Owusu further called on political actors to respect the will of the people and the rulings of the courts in the interest of peace and democracy.

He emphasized that Kpandai voters deserve clarity and a transparent process that allows them to choose their representative without controversy. “If indeed the voters love you, then be happy to go in for the election,” Owusu stated, adding that genuine popularity can only be proven at the ballot box, not through prolonged legal battles.
