The Deputy Minister for Transport and Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Hon. Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has reaffirmed government’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the private sector to create a conducive environment for investment in Ghana’s aviation and drone ecosystem. She made this assurance at the Ghana UTM & Digital Airspace Summit, held on 1st October at the Fiesta Royale Hotel, under the theme “Digital Airspace Infrastructure: The Role of UTM in Enabling Safe and Scale Drone Operations in Ghana.”

Addressing industry stakeholders, technology innovators, and regulators, Hon. Affo-Toffey emphasized that the government views private sector participation as a vital engine in driving innovation, investment, and sustainable growth in the drone and aviation space. She noted that a supportive partnership framework between the public and private sectors would ensure that Ghana remains at the forefront of digital airspace infrastructure across the continent.

“Government will continue to engage the private sector to provide an enabling environment for investment, especially in emerging areas like drone technology and Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM). Our role is to build the necessary policy and regulatory framework that ensures safety, security, and efficiency, while allowing innovation to thrive,” she stated.

She highlighted the enormous potential of drone technology in sectors such as health delivery, agriculture, logistics, and security, stressing that the proper deployment of UTM systems would enhance safe integration of drones into Ghana’s airspace. According to her, this will not only improve service delivery but also attract global investors and position Ghana as a hub for advanced drone operations in West Africa.

Hon. Affo-Toffey also applauded the organizers of the summit for convening key stakeholders to deliberate on the opportunities and challenges in digital airspace management. She encouraged continued dialogue, capacity building, and technological collaboration to unlock the full benefits of UTM in Ghana’s socio-economic development.

The summit brought together policymakers, aviation authorities, private sector players, and international partners to exchange ideas on creating a robust framework for drone operations. Participants reaffirmed the need for strong government-private sector collaboration, highlighting that investments in digital airspace infrastructure would catalyze job creation, efficiency, and innovation across multiple industries.
