The people of Central Gonja in the Savannah Region have raised concerns over what they describe as an imbalance in political appointments following the formation of the new government. In a strongly worded statement, they are calling on the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and President John Dramani Mahama to ensure fairness in the distribution of political positions within the Yapei Kusawgu Constituency and Central Gonja District.

According to the statement, Central Gonja is a unique district consisting of multiple traditional paramountcies, including the Buipe, Kusawgu, Tuluwe, and Debere traditional areas. These areas have historically played crucial roles in the region's governance and development. However, the people claim that recent political appointments have favored only a few of these paramountcies, leaving others completely unrepresented.

The statement further highlights that since the creation of the Yapei Kusawgu Constituency, the NDC has dominated the parliamentary seat, winning every election from 1992 to date. The late Alhaji Amadu Seidu served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for six consecutive terms, making him the longest-serving MP in the constituency’s history. The current MP, Hon. John Jinapor, is now in his third term in Parliament.

Despite their loyalty to the NDC, the people of Central Gonja feel sidelined in the distribution of political appointments under the current administration. The statement outlined some of the key appointments made so far and their distribution among the paramountcies in the constituency:

Buipe Traditional Area: Energy Minister (MP), CEO of Gas and Cylinders, CEO of VRA Properties

Kusawgu Traditional Area: Savannah Regional Minister, MD of NIB, NPA Appointment

Mamkpag Traditional Area: Council of State Representation

Debere Traditional Area: 0 appointments

Tuluwe Traditional Area: 0 appointments

The Debere and Tuluwe Traditional Areas have not received any political appointments, sparking frustration and disappointment among the people. The statement calls on the leadership of the NDC to rectify this imbalance and ensure that every traditional area in Central Gonja gets a fair share of political representation.

Additionally, the statement raises concerns over alleged favoritism in the selection of the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Central Gonja District. It alleges that some individuals who are not from the district have been shortlisted for the position due to their political connections, while qualified candidates from underrepresented areas have been ignored.

The concerned citizens are warning that if these grievances are not addressed, it could create serious divisions and tensions within the constituency and the party. They are, therefore, urging the NDC National Chairman, party executives, and President John Mahama to look into the matter and make the necessary adjustments before it escalates.

The statement concludes with a strong call for unity and fairness, emphasizing the need to carry everyone along in the governance and development of Central Gonja.
