Ghana’s Ambassador to China, His Excellency Ambassador Kojo Bonsu, has launched the China-Ghana Youth AI Talent Development Programme, an initiative aimed at equipping young Ghanaians with practical skills in Artificial Intelligence and data science.
The programme was launched in Zhoukou, Henan Province, through Ambassador Kojo Bonsu’s GenZ AI Club, in partnership with APUS Technology Co., Ltd., an Artificial Intelligence company based in Beijing, and Zhoukou Normal University.
The one-year programme will provide scholarship opportunities for young Ghanaians in China as well as students based in Ghana. Participants in China will receive on-site training, while Ghana-based students will join the programme virtually.
The initiative is also designed to move beyond classroom learning. Outstanding participants will have opportunities for internships and potential employment with APUS Technology, giving them practical industry experience and exposure to AI applications.
Ambassador Kojo Bonsu said the programme is intended to create a network of young Ghanaian professionals capable of developing technology-driven solutions to challenges in key sectors of the economy.
“We want to create a growing network of young Ghanaian professionals capable of developing solutions to challenges in agriculture, healthcare, education and finance.”
He encouraged participants to become knowledge multipliers by sharing their expertise with students, universities and technology communities across Ghana.
The initiative also introduces a youth-centred dimension to Ghana-China cooperation by connecting Ghanaian students and emerging technology professionals with China’s growing technology and innovation ecosystem.
With its focus on training, scholarships, practical experience and potential employment opportunities, the programme seeks to prepare young Ghanaians to participate more actively in the global AI revolution.
The initiative ultimately raises a broader question for Ghana’s digital future: Could the next major solution to a Ghanaian challenge in agriculture, healthcare, education or finance come from a young Ghanaian trained through this China-Ghana technology partnership?
