A young woman identified as Jennifer has been dragged to court after allegedly defrauding a man of GHS 215, which was sent to her as transport fare to facilitate a visit.

According to the complainant, Emmanuel, he sent the money to Jennifer with the expectation that she would honour his invitation. However, after receiving the funds, Jennifer reportedly failed to show up, ignoring all subsequent calls and messages.

Feeling cheated, Emmanuel lodged a formal complaint, leading to Jennifer’s arraignment before the court.

The prosecution explained that Jennifer’s action constituted fraud, and if found guilty, she could face a fine or a custodial sentence of up to seven years unless she refunds the total amount demanded by the court GHS 3,200, which includes damages and legal costs.

The case has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with many debating whether Emmanuel’s action was justified or if the matter could have been settled privately without resorting to the courts.

Jennifer, however, maintains her innocence and has been granted bail pending further hearing of the case.
