The Abura Asebu Kwamankese District Police Command, in collaboration with the Assemblyman for Asebu, has arrested two individuals for engaging in illegal mining (galamsey) activities at Abakrampa Junction in the Central Region.

According to reports, the suspects were caught in the act after the Assemblyman and community members raised concerns about the increasing destruction of farmlands and water bodies in the area due to illegal mining operations. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, the Police and local authorities conducted a surprise operation that led to the arrest.

The two suspects, whose names are yet to be disclosed, are currently in police custody assisting with investigations. Mining equipment and tools believed to have been used for the illegal activities were also retrieved from the site.

The Assemblyman for Asebu commended the Police for their prompt response and cautioned residents against engaging in illegal mining, emphasizing the long-term environmental and social damage it causes.

The Abura Asebu Kwamankese District Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to clamp down on all forms of illegal mining within the district to preserve the environment and protect livelihoods.

Authorities further urged community members to report any suspicious mining activities to ensure collective efforts in the fight against galamsey.
