The Telecel Ghana Music Awards Board has cleared the air on why King Paluta's song "Makoma" didn't make the cut for this year's awards. Contrary to rumors that the song was excluded due to profanity, the board explained that the real reason is because of their "one-song-per-category" rule.

This rule states that each artist can only have one song nominated per category, except for a few categories like Best Collaboration, Best International Collaboration, and Best Music Video. The rule is designed to prevent vote-splitting and give artists a fair shot at winning.

In King Paluta's case, the board chose his song "Aseda" over "Makoma" because it was more popular, based on streaming numbers and airplay from 175 radio stations. "Aseda" made the cut for both the Highlife and Most Popular Song of the Year categories.

Interestingly, this isn't the first time the "one-song-per-category" rule has been enforced. Back in 2016, Bisa Kdei had two hit songs, "Mansa" and "Brother Brother," but only "Mansa" got nominated. Despite speculation that "Brother Brother" was excluded due to explicit content, it was actually because Bisa Kdei chose "Mansa" as his biggest song for nomination, based on the board's policy.
