Seven, Including Soldier, Remanded Over GH¢769,500 Fuel Tanker Robbery

Seven individuals, including a serving soldier, have been remanded into police custody for their alleged role in the robbery of a fuel tanker carrying 54,000 litres of diesel valued at GH¢769,500.

The incident occurred on August 6, 2025, when the accused persons allegedly trailed a DAF fuel tanker with registration number GT-2493-20 from Tema to Kumasi. At Pampaso Number 1 in the Eastern Region, the group reportedly intercepted the tanker at gunpoint.

According to police reports, the suspects diverted the tanker to the Pacific Fuel Station at Bunso Junction, where they transferred the diesel into another empty tanker. Meanwhile, the driver and his mate were allegedly abducted and driven away in a green pickup truck with registration GX 2881-22.

The operation was foiled when the driver and his mate managed to raise an alarm, leading to the arrest of Corporal Bortey Bernard at a police checkpoint at Ablekuma Borkorborkor. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of five more suspects, while four others remain at large.

The seven accused persons have since been arraigned before court and remanded into police custody to assist with further investigations.

Police say efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects and recover the stolen fuel.
