The tragic helicopter disaster in Obuasi on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, continues to leave Ghanaians in shock as new details emerge about the moments before the crash.
Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, Chief Executive Officer of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), revealed in an interview with Kumasi-based Akoma FM that the pilot made several attempts to land the aircraft before the fatal incident.
According to Mr. Boadi, Samuel Aboagye, a passenger on board, had been in communication with the Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) while on the flight.
“Samuel Aboagye was speaking with the MCE for Obuasi on the aircraft. He told them to bring his car to the airstrip,” he narrated.
“He later said they could not land there, so they should bring the car to Oforikrom. They made two attempts at the airstrip in Obuasi and one attempt at Oforikrom,” he added.
Mr. Boadi also commended the Adansi Akrofuom District Chief Executive, Mr. Gariba, for his swift and decisive leadership in coordinating rescue efforts at the crash site.
He further called on the public to remain sensitive and respectful towards the grieving families, stressing that the tragedy should be met with compassion rather than speculation.
The helicopter disaster, which claimed multiple lives, remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the exact cause.
