A 22-year-old Nigerian hairdresser, Nicky Isabella, also known as Bella, has been sentenced to five years in prison by the Achimota Circuit Court for trafficking two young Nigerian women to Ghana and forcing them into prostitution.

The court presided over by Mrs. Akosua Anokyewaa Adjepong convicted Isabella after a full trial.

Isabella lured the victims to Ghana with promises of jobs at a supermarket in Adjiringanor, Accra, but instead seized their earnings and subjected them to exploitation. She made them swear an oath on the Bible, cutting pieces of their pubic hair and threatening to use them in rituals if they disobeyed her orders.

The victims, aged 22 and 23, have been rescued and are receiving psychosocial support. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) William Ayariga, Director of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, emphasized that Ghana is not a safe haven for human traffickers and vowed to continue arresting and prosecuting offenders.

"We are not slowing down. We will continue arresting, investigating, and prosecuting offenders. No form of human trafficking or migrant smuggling will be tolerated in Ghana. Justice will prevail," DSP Ayariga said.
