Veteran gospel music group, Alabaster Box, has taken a strong stance against rapper Medikal over allegations of song theft. The group claims that Medikal sampled their hit song "Akwaaja" without permission in the first 10 seconds of his latest track, "Welcome to Africa." According to their lawyers, Sustineri Attorneys, Medikal's actions go beyond just "vibing" and have crossed the line into copyright infringement.
Alabaster Box has served Medikal with a list of demands, including:
- Removing the song from all platforms, including YouTube, Spotify, and Boomplay
- Ceasing all performances and promotions of the song, including live stage performances
- Canceling any contracts related to the song's production or distribution
- Submitting all contracts related to the song for review
- Providing a full account of all revenue generated from the song
The lawsuit has sparked a heated debate on social media, with many users weighing in on the controversy. Medikal and his team have yet to respond publicly to the allegations. The case is expected to have significant implications for the music industry, particularly in the area of copyright infringement.
