The Kusasi Chief of the Ashanti Region and Kaadi Divisional Area Chief in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region, Abdul-Malik Azenbe, has been tragically shot and killed by unknown gunmen. The incident occurred on the evening of Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at approximately 8:40 pm, in front of his residence at Asawase F-Line, near the Community Centre.

The Chief was shot multiple times by an armed individual on a motorbike. Eyewitnesses report that two people approached the residence on a motorbike, and one of them, armed with an AK-47 rifle, opened fire on the Chief. The perpetrators then sped off, leaving the Chief severely injured.

The Chief was initially rushed to the Manhyia District Hospital but was later referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital due to the severity of his injuries. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, visited the bereaved family to offer condolences and assure them of a thorough investigation. He pledged that the perpetrators will be identified and brought to justice.
