The world of professional wrestling is in mourning following the death of Hulk Hogan, one of the most iconic and influential figures in the sport’s history. According to TMZ Sports, the WWE legend passed away at his home in Clearwater, Florida, on July 24. He was 71 years old.

Emergency responders were dispatched after a 911 call reported a case of “cardiac arrest,” as obtained from audio recordings released by the outlet.

Born Terry Gene Bollea, Hogan was a six-time WWE Champion and a cornerstone of the WWE’s rise to global fame in the 1980s and early '90s. With his signature handlebar mustache, bandana, and booming charisma, he became more than a wrestler he was a cultural phenomenon.

Just a month before his passing, Hogan’s representative had dismissed swirling rumors about his health. In a June 2025 interview with E! News, the rep confirmed Hogan had undergone successful neck surgery and insisted there was “no reason to panic,” despite speculation sparked by Florida-based radio personality Bubba the Love Sponge, who claimed Hogan had been hospitalized and was in critical condition.

In a statement released shortly after news broke, World Wrestling Entertainment expressed deep sorrow:

“WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away,” the company said. “Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s and became one of pop culture’s most recognisable figures.”

“WWE extends its condolences to Hogan’s family, friends, and fans.”

Hogan’s legacy includes not only his in-ring achievements, but also his impact on mainstream entertainment. He starred in reality TV shows such as Hogan Knows Best, made film appearances, and became a household name even to those who never stepped into a wrestling arena.

As tributes pour in from fellow wrestlers, celebrities, and fans across the world, one thing is clear Hulk Hogan’s influence on sports entertainment will never be forgotten.
