Helicopter Crash: Okumanini Mourns With President, Families

In a heartfelt message dated August 13, 2025, HRM Okumanini Baffour Asare Kyeahene II, Paramount Chief of the Affutuakwa Traditional Area, expressed profound sorrow over the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Ghana’s Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Alhaji Murtala Mohammed Ibrahim, and six other distinguished citizens.

The devastating incident, which occurred on August 6, 2025, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, has left the nation in mourning. The victims included:
- Dr. Edward Omane Boama: Minister for Defence
- Alhaji Murtala Mohammed Ibrahim: Minister for Environment, Science and Technology
- Alhaji Muniru Limuna: Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
- Dr. Samuel Sarpong: Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and former Ashanti Regional Minister
- Samuel Aboagye: Former NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East
- Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala: Pilot
- Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu: Co-pilot
- Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah: Crew Member

The Affutuakwa Traditional Council stands in solidarity with the bereaved families, the Government of Ghana, and all citizens affected by this national tragedy. “Their dedication to Ghana’s progress will forever be remembered,” the message reads, calling for unity, reflection, and a renewed commitment to peace and development in honor of the departed.

On behalf of the Chiefs and people of Affutuakwa, the Paramount Chief extends sincere condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, the Government, and the people of Ghana. The nation continues to mourn the loss of these prominent individuals, who were serving the country with dedication and commitment.
