Ghana Police Service Cracks Down on Illegal Mining at Ankaase Gyadam

The Ghana Police Service conducted an intelligence-led operation at Ankaase Gyadam, near Asamang Tamfoe in the Eastern Region, on July 25, 2025. Twenty-seven male suspects were arrested for engaging in illegal mining activities.

During the operation, police officers encountered resistance from individuals wielding machetes and other offensive implements. The authorities seized:

- 11 excavators
- 1 bulldozer
- 1 pick loader
- 1 pump-action shotgun
- 3 saloon vehicles
- 1 Mitsubishi pickup truck
- Several water pumping machines and other mining equipment

The suspects are assisting with investigations while in police custody, and the seized exhibits are securely retained. The Ghana Police Service's swift action underscores their commitment to combating illegal mining activities.
