A wake and funeral are being held for Portuguese soccer player Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, who tragically died in a car accident in Spain on Thursday. The siblings' bodies were repatriated to Portugal after being identified by the family and Spanish government officials.
The car they were traveling in left the road and caught fire after a suspected burst tyre while overtaking on the A-52 motorway in Zamora, northwestern Spain.
A wake is being held on Friday afternoon at the Capela da Ressurreição São Cosme in Gondomar, near Porto, Portugal, where family and friends are gathering to pay their respects. The funeral for the siblings is planned for Saturday at 10 am.
The news of Jota's death has sent shockwaves through the football community, with tributes pouring in from fellow players, clubs, and fans. Liverpool FC described Jota as a "great friend, a loving and caring husband and father." Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo expressed his condolences to Jota's family, wife, and three lovely children.

The Portuguese Football Federation and all of Portuguese football are "utterly devastated" by the deaths, and a minute's silence was held for Jota ahead of the Women's Euros matches featuring Spain vs Portugal and Belgium vs Italy on Thursday evening.
Jota's Liverpool teammate Darwin Nunez wrote on Instagram, "There are no words of comfort for so much pain. I will always remember you with your smile, as a good companion on and off the field."
Jota's legacy as a talented player and loving family man will be remembered by fans and fellow players alike. His death is a tragic reminder of the fragility of life, and the football community will miss him dearly.
