The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA), Hon. Ismail Zagoon-Saeed, has joined senior citizens of Elmina in calling for stronger community participation in efforts to improve sanitation and keep the historic town clean.

The call was made during a walk through parts of Elmina to inspect the outcome of a communal labour exercise organised to improve environmental cleanliness.

The exercise also provided an opportunity to identify major causes of poor sanitation and discuss measures to address improper waste disposal within the town.

Speaking on behalf of the senior citizens, Mr. Godwin Kenneth Anani said the group was committed to ensuring that Elmina remained clean and provided a healthy environment for its residents.

He described sanitation as a priority and appealed to residents and other stakeholders to support the initiative by taking responsibility for keeping their surroundings clean.

Mr. Anani emphasised that the task of maintaining a clean Elmina should not be left to the Assembly alone, urging everyone to contribute to the effort.

Hon. Zagoon-Saeed assured the group that the Assembly was prepared to provide the necessary support to sustain sanitation activities across the municipality.

He also warned that individuals who engage in activities that make the environment dirty would face the appropriate sanctions, stressing that offenders would be dealt with accordingly.

The collaboration between the Assembly and the senior citizens highlights the importance of community involvement in tackling sanitation challenges.

Both parties urged residents to sustain the effort beyond communal labour exercises and adopt responsible waste-disposal practices to make Elmina cleaner and healthier for residents and visitors.
