Ghanaian evangelist and founder of Heaven Way Church, Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, has suffered another legal blow as the Amasaman High Court has denied her application for bail following her court appearance today, Monday, July 15, 2025.
Agradaa, who is currently serving a 15-year prison sentence over multiple charges related to defrauding by false pretence, appeared in court hoping to secure temporary freedom while awaiting the outcome of her appeal. However, the presiding judge dismissed the bail application, ruling that she must remain in custody until the appeal process concludes.
Following the court's ruling, Agradaa’s legal counsel expressed strong disappointment, describing the decision as unfair and unjustified. Speaking to the media shortly after the court session, the lawyer insisted that the appeal stands a strong chance of success, citing serious irregularities and judicial bias during the original trial.
“The appeal has a strong chance of success due to the flaws that characterised the trial and the bias exhibited by the trial Judge,” the lawyer stated.
He further argued that the sentencing process failed to properly consider mitigating factors, even though Ghana’s own Sentencing Guidelines were mentioned during the trial. According to him, if these factors were weighed adequately, Agradaa could have received a more lenient sentence.
Agradaa, who has remained in the custody of prison officers since her conviction weeks ago, was immediately escorted back to prison after today’s hearing. This development means she will continue to serve her full sentence unless her appeal at a higher court succeeds.
Nana Agradaa, once a self-acclaimed spiritualist turned evangelist, has been a controversial figure in Ghana’s religious and media landscape. Her legal troubles began after multiple individuals accused her of scamming them through deceptive religious schemes, particularly involving money doubling rituals. Her conviction marked a significant turn in a case that has garnered nationwide attention.
While her legal team remains hopeful about the appeal, today’s ruling marks a major setback. The appeal is still pending, and the next steps in the legal battle are expected to unfold in the coming weeks.
