The Member of Parliament for the Cape Coast South Constituency, Hon. George Ricketts-Hagan, is set to construct a modern AstroTurf football pitch with ancillary facilities as part of efforts to promote sports development and nurture young football talents in the constituency.
The project, announced on Friday, September 4, 2026, will comprise an artificial football pitch, ballustrade fencing, floodlights and a spectator stand.
The facility is expected to provide young people and football enthusiasts in the constituency with an improved environment for training, competitions and other sporting activities.
Speaking about the project, the Metro Chief Executive for Cape Coast, Hon. George Justice Arthur, stressed the importance of football to the identity and development of Cape Coast.
He said Cape Coast could not be left out whenever football in Ghana is discussed, adding that the government is committed to ensuring that the sport continues to thrive in the metropolis.
«“When we talk about football in Ghana, Cape Coast won't be left out. Therefore, the government is poised to make sure football reigns in Cape Coast,” the MCE stated.»
The inclusion of floodlights will allow the facility to host football activities beyond daylight hours, while the spectator stand will provide space for supporters and visitors during matches and other events.
The project is being undertaken by Wembley Sports Construction Co. Ltd.
The AstroTurf itself is being funded and provided by Hon. George Ricketts-Hagan, MP for Cape Coast South, as part of his contribution towards improving sporting infrastructure in the constituency.
The initiative is expected to create opportunities for young footballers to develop their talents while providing the wider community with a modern facility for recreation, training and competitive football.
Upon completion, the facility is expected to further strengthen Cape Coast's position as an important football centre in Ghana and contribute to the development of the next generation of football talents from the area.
