Berekum Chelsea have confirmed the heartbreaking death of their young forward, Dominic Frimpong, following a violent armed robbery attack on the club’s team bus on Sunday evening, April 12, 2026.
The incident occurred while the team was returning to Berekum after their Ghana Premier League Matchday 29 clash against FC Samartex at DUN’s Park, where they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat.
According to reports from the club, the team’s bus was ambushed along the Bibiani–Goaso road near Ahyiresu. Armed assailants allegedly blocked the highway, forcing players and officials to abandon the vehicle and flee into nearby bushes in a desperate attempt to escape.
In the confusion and panic that followed, several members of the team sustained various injuries.
Frimpong, just 20 years old, was critically wounded after reportedly being shot in the head during the attack. He was rushed to Bibiani Government Hospital but was sadly pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Authorities have since launched an intensive manhunt for the perpetrators, who remain at large. Security agencies are also working to account for all team members, as some players and officials reportedly scattered during the ordeal and are yet to be fully accounted for.
Frimpong had joined Berekum Chelsea on loan from Aduana FC in January, with the deal set to run until the end of the 2025/26 season. Despite his short time at the club, he showed promise, scoring two goals in 13 appearances.
The tragic loss has sent shockwaves through the football community, with calls growing for improved security measures to protect teams traveling across the country.
