The gallant cadres of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lauded President John Dramani Mahama for launching several social intervention initiatives - the Adwumawura Programme, Work Abroad Policy, and Coders Programme.
In a press release issued and signed by the PRO, Mr. Richard E. A. Sarpong, popularly called Father Casford, on Wednesday, 30th April, 2025, it states that these initiatives by Prez Mahama mark a significant milestone in addressing youth unemployment in Ghana. "These initiatives demonstrate a commitment to empowering Ghanaian youths through entrepreneurship, job creation, and skills development training," the statement noted.
Juxtaposing the current programmes to the previous administration, the NDC Cadres highlight that, unlike the previous administrations of Nana Addo, which often allocated resources without tangible outcomes, the Adwumawura initiative, the 100 Million Coders Programme, is refreshing since it envisions desired outcomes. The current programmes like Adwumawura and Coders are well-structured, showcasing a judicious use of limited national resources to yield meaningful results.
Touching on the Work Abroad policy, being implemented through the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), opens doors for Ghanaian youths to explore global job opportunities, which is more inclusive, structured, and curtails exploitation. 'This forward-thinking approach will undoubtedly contribute to reducing unemployment and fostering economic growth in Ghana", stressed the statement.
The Gallant Cadres of NDC commend His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for his swift and decisive action in tackling youth unemployment with these initiatives. According to the statement, his leadership has reinvigorated the confidence of the Ghanaian youth, encouraging the president to implement more innovative policies that align with his 'Resetting Agenda.' "These initiatives signal a new era for the Ghanaian youth, and we eagerly anticipate the positive impact they will have on our nation's future. Congratulations to the Mahama government on taking this crucial step toward a brighter future for our teeming youth", the statement underscored.
The statement praised President Mahama for delivering on his 120-day social contract with the Ghanaian people. It indicated that President Mahama had promised to introduce the following: free tertiary education for persons with disabilities, and to commence the distribution of free sanitary pads to female students in primary and secondary schools.
The sanitary pad initiative aims at preventing girls from dropping out of school due to menstruation. The initiative seeks to ensure that menstruation no longer becomes an obstacle to girls' education by providing them with the necessary support to stay in school throughout their academic journey.
Furthermore, the Gallant Cadres revealed that the government had allocated GH¢292.4 million in the 2024/2025 budget for the supply of sanitary pads to girls across the country, which is commendable.
The statement concluded by urging the government to provide sanitary pads to schoolgirls in a timely manner. "This move is expected to have a positive impact on girls' education and overall well-being, ultimately contributing to a more equitable and prosperous society".
