The Gallant Cadres of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has described the Office of The Special Prosecutor (OSP) as irrelevant and and drain on the national coffers, calling President John Dramani Mahama to initiate processes of getting it scrapped.
In press release issued on Monday, April 28, 2025, they questioned economic benefits of the office to Ghanaians after several years of its establishment. "After years of observing the performance of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), the Gallant Cadres of NDC have come to the unavoidable conclusion that this institution has become a drain on the nation's scarce resources, delivering nothing but false hope to Ghanaians", the statement avered.
The Cadres observed that taking into consideration the ecstasy that heralded it's establishment, many Ghanaians believed it was going to be a powerful weapon in the fight against corruption. However, according to the Cadres, the OSP clothed with with powers to independently operate without fear or favour, and to dispense justice swiftly, has not been achieved.
According to the release, "High-profile investigations are announced with great fanfare, only to fizzle out into silence, withdrawals, or excuses. The OSP has become a theatre of empty promises — an expensive one at that — funded by the hardworking Ghanaian taxpayer", it stresses.

Scrap The Office Of The Special Prosecutor Now OSP Is A Needless Waste Of Ghana's Resources
The Gallant Cadres of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), write with deep concern and a sense of responsibility to the people of Ghana the need to Scrap the Office of the Special Prosecutor. What has been the economic benefits of OSP several years after setting up ? . After years of observing the performance of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), the Gallant Cadres of NDC have come to the unavoidable conclusion that this institution has become a drain on the nation's scarce resources, delivering nothing but false hope to Ghanaians.
When the OSP was established, it was heralded as a powerful weapon in the fight against corruption. Ghanaians were told that it would operate independently, without fear or favour, and swiftly bring to justice those who abuse public trust. Sadly, after all these years, the office has utterly failed to achieve its intended purpose.Instead of tangible results, Ghanaians have been subjected to a cycle of press releases, public statements, and political drama. High-profile investigations are announced with great fanfare, only to fizzle out into silence, withdrawals, or excuses. The OSP has become a theatre of empty promises — an expensive one at that — funded by the hardworking Ghanaian taxpayer.
While the Office continues to issue threats and updates, very few — if any — significant prosecutions have materialized. Corruption cases drag on endlessly with no conclusion in sight. Meanwhile, the Special Prosecutor and his team continue to withdraw fat monthly salaries and enjoy privileges, without giving Ghanaians the results they were promised.
Mr. President John Dramani Mahama , this is not only a betrayal of the public trust, but a reckless wastage of public funds. Ghana deserves better.
The Gallant Cadres of National Democratic Congress therefore call upon you to take bold and decisive action:
Scrap the Office of the Special Prosecutor immediately.
In its place, we urge you to fulfill the promise you once made — the establishment of a Special Prosecutorial Court. A dedicated court, properly resourced and insulated from political interference, is what is needed to ensure the speedy and fair trial of corruption cases. A court system, bound by timelines and accountability, will deliver justice far more effectively than the current failing institution.
Ghana cannot afford the luxury of keeping a non-performing institution afloat while critical sectors such as education, health, and infrastructure beg for resources. The current situation is not sustainable, and it is an insult to the millions of citizens who demand real action against corruption.Mr. President, for the sake of Ghana’s future, and to restore the people’s faith in the fight against corruption, we humbly but firmly demand that you act now.
Scrap the Office of the Special Prosecutor and establish the Special Prosecutorial Court as you promised.
History will judge the choices you make today.
Signed,
Gallant Cadres of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
