The newly confirmed Metropolitan Chief Executive of Cape Coast, Honourable George Justice Arthur, has expressed his elation over the overwhelming endorsement he received from the Assembly Members, describing it as very humbling and also placing an enormous responsibility on his shoulders.
In an interview on GBC Radio Central, Tuesday, April 22, 2025, the MCE thanked the President and Vice President for the confidence reposed in him, highlighting that the Assembly Members' endorsement shows an enormous belief in the president's appointee to deliver for the good people of Cape Coast.
Touching on his vision, he averred that one cardinal problem he has identified is the non-payment of building permits by developers and property tax. "Any developer who has any house or project must have a building permit, and all those not paying property tax must be prepared to do so. It's something I intend to achieve in my first 120 days in office," he stressed.
On the 120-day project, he highlighted that policy would be rolled over every 120 days. "This would give Cape Coasters the opportunity to track the performance of the MCE every 3 months," he stressed, positing that it would give direction to Cape Coast, striving to achieve something every 120 days.

Mr. Arthur hinted at an audit, which he had yet to sanction, to ascertain the assets and liabilities of the Metropolis. He argued that this would give him a fair idea of the actual state of the Metropolis, helping inhabitants appreciate the true state of the Assembly, and "this would help us chart a new course and direction for Cape Coast," he stated.

When pushed against the wall to assess his predecessor's performance, George Justice Arthur indicated that he would be able to make a sound assessment after the audit. However, he admitted that the former MCE failed to build a cordial relationship with his MPs, which affected his performance. 'I would build a very, very cordial relationship with my MPs to aid development in the Metropolis. The MPs are agents of development,' he stressed.
After the radio interview, Hon Arthur paid a courtesy call on GBC Radio Central's Regional Director, Mr. Prakah Anderson. Mr. Anderson took the opportunity to explain GBC Radio Central's mandate of playing a dual role - public service and commercial service broadcasting. He pledged GBC Radio Central's support to the Assembly, contributing to the general development of Cape Coast, the region, and Ghana at large. He highlighted the station's preparedness to partner with the assembly under his leadership to achieve his desired vision for the metropolis.
The MCE and GBC Radio Central's Regional exchanged pleaseantries, pledgeding to collaborate for the forward movement of the metropolis.
As the new Cape Coast MCE officially takes office today, most of the inhabitants have mixed feelings about whether he can bring in some fresh energy to help the metropolis's development or if it would be business as usual. His 100 percent endorsement signifies that he is loved by all Assembly members. Observers are watching how he leverages his support to make a difference in Cape Coast's development.
