As Ghana endeavors to meet its local meat consumption and encourage more youth to venture into farming, the Gallant Cadres of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have proposed that the government consider extending the Nkoko Nkitinkiti project to encompass Ghanaian Secondary Schools, particularly agricultural Secondary Schools and Colleges of Education, during the project's implementation phase.

In a statement released and signed by Mr. Richard E. A. Sarpong, popularly known as Father Casford, on Tuesday, 24th June 2025, they proposed that implementing poultry farming projects in these public institutions would enable them to be self-sufficient, reducing their reliance on external resources for the day-to-day running of such schools.

The NDC Cadres recommend that the government leverage the Cosmos Innovative Centres' initiative in implementing its poultry farming project in schools. "Drawing inspiration from the Cosmos Innovative Centers' initiatives, which have successfully empowered rural schools to engage in farming, we propose that the Nkoko Nkitinkiti project adopts a similar approach," proposed the statement.

They conclude by contending that the adoption of their proposal by the government would empower our educational institutions, foster self-sufficiency, and promote agricultural sustainability.

Nkoko Nkitinkiti Project: Empowering Schools Through Poultry Farming - An Appeal to the Minister of Agriculture

As Ghana strives to build a more sustainable and self-sufficient future through a resilient economy, innovative projects like the Nkoko Nkitinkiti initiative deserve consideration for wider implementation. The Gallant Cadres of the National Democratic Congress believe that extending the Nkoko Nkitinkiti project to Ghanaian Secondary Schools, particularly Agricultural Secondary Schools and Colleges of Education, would be a significant step forward.

Implementing poultry farming projects in these public institutions would enable them to be self-sufficient, reducing their reliance on external resources. Drawing inspiration from the Cosmus Innovative Centers' initiatives, which have successfully empowered rural schools to engage in farming, we propose that the Nkoko Nkitinkiti project adopts a similar approach.

By providing necessary logistics and support, Agricultural secondary schools can embark on poultry farming, utilizing their harvests to meet their needs and promote sustainability. This initiative would not only benefit the schools but also contribute to the nation's agricultural development.

Notably, the Brong Ahafo Region, being one of the largest producers of poultry products in the country, presents a suitable location for piloting this project. We believe that piloting the project in this region would yield better results, as opposed to the Northern part of the country, where high temperatures might pose challenges.

The Gallant Cadres of NDC humbly appeal to the Minister of Agriculture to consider this laudable idea and explore ways to integrate it into the Nkoko Nkitinkiti project. By doing so, we can empower our educational institutions, foster self-sufficiency, and promote agricultural sustainability. We believe that this initiative has the potential to make a positive impact and look forward to the Minister's consideration.

A Humble Appeal to the Hon. Minister of Agriculture.
