The President of Eastern Nzema Traditional Council in Ellembelle district of the Western region, His Royal Majesty Awulae Blay IX, has urged the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to maintain its position over the revocation of the mining leases of the Adamus Resources Limited.

On Sunday, April 26, 2026, the Ministry for Lands and Natural Resources revoked the mining leases of Adamus Resources Limited for allegedly given parts of their mining concessions at Nkroful, Salman and Akango in Ellembelle district and Nzema East Municipality in the Western region to some Chinese nationals to do illegal mining without any authorization from the Lands and Natural Resources Ministry as the Ghana's minerals and mining laws established.

The CEO of Adamus Resources Limited, Angela List has however, denied the allegation and asked the government to restore her mining leases to continue her operations at Nkroful, Salman and Akango.

But speaking at a news conference at Atuabo, the seat of the Eastern Nzema Traditional Council on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, His Royal Majesty Awulae Blay IX who is also the Paramount Chief of Atuabo, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah for protecting the interest of Ellembelle district by revoking the mining leases of Adamus Resources Limited.

"To His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, you promised to reset Ghana. You promised to protect our water bodies. You promised that the era of "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" regarding galamsey was over. You have kept your word. For this, the people of Eastern Nzema (Ellembelle Maanle) say Ayekoo. You are a true son of the land who values the toil of the farmer and the fisherman more than the gold of the foreign exploiter. We thank President John Dramani Mahama for this move", Awulae Blay IX acknowledged.

He added that, "It is with a heart full of profound relief and deep gratitude that I address this press conference on a matter that has been a thorn in the flesh of our communities for far too long, the matter of illegal, irresponsible, and environmentally devastating mining activities on our concessions".

His Royal Majesty Awulae Blay IX encouraged the government not to bow to any pressure or legal threats from the Adamus Resources Limited.

"I urge President Mahama and Hon. Buah not to bow to the pressure or legal threats from Adamus Resources. The Minerals Commission has confirmed they have pictorial evidence and inspection reports. Do not reinstate this license. Do not negotiate with those who poisoned our waters", he stated.

His Royal Majesty Awulae Blay IX urged the government to be vigilant and remain resolved and to listen to any sweet words from the Adamus Resources Limited.

"While we celebrate today, we must be vigilant. Adamus Resources Limited has already begun crying foul. They claim there was a "breach of due process". They claim they were not notified.
Let me state for the record: You cannot notify a snake that you are about to strike its head

For years, the people of Akango, Salman, and Nkroful have been "notifying" the authorities about the pollution of our streams. Yet, the company remained silent. Now that their license is gone, they want "due process"? This is the hypocrisy of the exploiter", he emphasised.

He further stated that, "We want Adamus Resources Limited on our land anymore, we don't want to do anything with Adamus. Adamus is our worse nightmare, we don't want them back. Today we are going to slaughter a sheep and pour libation as a sign of total rejection - we don't have anything to do with them again and to clean their mess and curse on our land".

He, therefore, called on the government to look for a new mining investor who will listen to the cries of Nzemaland and give the concessions to.

"We will use this opportunity to appeal to President John Dramani Mahama and Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah to bring a new mining investor who will listen to our cries by developing Ellembelle district and Nzemaland. Adamus Resources Limited doesn't respect anybody in Ellembelle district especially we the Chiefs - whenever we call them for engagement they don't come - they haven't built any health facility in any of their catchment communities since 2007 that they came on our land", he said.

In a related development, the Chiefs and Queen Mothers of Eastern Nzema Traditional Council led by the His Royal Majesty Awulae Blay IX, performed a ritual to bar Adamus Resources Limited from their lands.

The also invoked the ancestors and gods of their land on any opposition who would challenge the press conference of the His Royal Majesty Awulae Blay IX, the President of Eastern Nzema Traditional Council.

"From today going, we don't have anything to do with Adamus Resources Limited, we don't need them on our land anymore, we have invoked the ancestors and gods of our land against anybody who will speak ill against us", Angry Chiefs and Queen Mothers prayed.
