Residents of Kakebabenzele, a suburb of Menzezor in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region, are set to get a new 5-seater water closet toilet facility following a sod-cutting ceremony by philanthropist George Assuah.
Kakebabenzele has been without a public toilet for many years, a situation that has forced some residents to resort to open defecation in the bush.
The facility, when completed, is expected to address the sanitation challenge and improve public health in the community.
George Assuah, a professional nurse, said the project will be completed within four months. He appealed to residents to support the initiative through communal labour to ensure its timely completion.
"Even though I have the money to complete this project, I will need the total support from the community. So I will use this medium to appeal to the residents here to provide communal labour. Let us help ourselves", he said.
He added; "I'm doing this project here because I love my community. I'm not doing it for any reason but I love my community, and I can't be stingy to my own people".
At the ceremony, Assuah urged residents to remain peaceful and united to accelerate development in the area.
He also appealed to the community to take their personal health seriously and to embark on routine medical check-ups.
"Health is very important, so don't wait to fall sick before you go to the hospital. Let us embark on routine medical check-ups, and it is not expensive", he advised.
The residents expressed heartfelt gratitude to George Assuah for thinking about their welfare.
They said the project would bring relief and promote better sanitation practices in the community.
The sod-cutting ceremony took place over the weekend.
