The Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has inspected constructional works on a six-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities at Asemko in the Kikam Electoral Area of the Western Region.

The project, which is about 95 per cent complete, has all rooms connected to electricity.

The facility comprises classrooms, an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centre, staff common room, headmaster's office, store, water closet toilet and potable water.

The project, which commenced in August 2026, is being funded from the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) and also MP's Common Fund, in line with President John Dramani Mahama's directive that 80 per cent of the Fund be disbursed directly to the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, with 10 per cent earmarked for educational infrastructure.

Armah-Kofi Buah, who is also the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, said the intervention had become necessary following the rapid growth in enrollment at Asemko Basic School, which was established in 2016 with less than 30 pupils and now has a population of about 400.

The community started Junior High School One in 2023 in a two-unit classroom block constructed by the MP in 2020. Due to inadequate classrooms, some pupils currently study at the Chief's Palace.

The contractor has given assurance to complete and hand over the facility before the end of 2026.

Buah commended the District Chief Executive for Ellembelle, Joseph Agyekum, for the support given to the contractor to ensure timely execution of the project.

He also commended the Assembly Member, Chiefs and people of Asemko for their maximum support and cooperation towards the execution of the project.

Speaking to Daniel Kaku of GhanaWeb, the Assembly Member for the area, Paul Kodwo Kwaw, expressed profound gratitude to the MP and the DCE for selecting Asemko for the project.

He also thanked the Ellembelle District Engineer for his frequent visits to the site to support the contractor and his workers.

He commended the contractor and his workers for the speed of work, describing it as the fastest execution of a school project in Ghana.

"In fact, the contractor is very hardworking, he started the construction in August and he is almost done with the work and we are expecting him to complete it before the end of this year," he stated.

"The history of the Asemko school can't be written without Ellembelle MP Lawyer Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah because the facilities you see here came through him, we are most grateful to him," he added.

Paul Kwaw said the construction of the project had created an avenue for local women to sell food and other items to the workers, thereby boosting the local economy.
