Seventeen victims involved in a fatal road traffic accident at Woadze near Kpeve along the Kpeve–Asikuma road in the Volta Region have been rescued by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service at the Peki Fire Station.
The accident happened on Friday, 22nd May 2026, according to the Fire Service.
The service said the station received a distress call at 7:58PM and responded swiftly to rescue victims trapped in a Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle, registration number GR 8231 C, travelling from Abotuase to Ningo in the Greater Accra Region.
The vehicle, carrying twenty passengers made up of eleven males, five females, and four children, sustained severe damage in the crash. Rescue team successfully extricated thirteen adults and four children from the wreckage.
The service said, three adults two males and one female lost their lives in the incident.
Personnel from the Ghana Police Service, Kpando Divisional Command, together with the Ghana Ambulance Service from Afadjato and Juapong, conveyed the injured and the deceased to the Kpando Government Hospital and Peki Government Hospital for treatment, preservation, and further investigations.
The cause of the accident is under investigation, the GNFS continues to urge motorists to observe road safety regulations and avoid excessive speeding.
