In a statement released on March 5, 2026, the NUGS National Secretariat said NUGSA-Germany is a private non-governmental organisation and cautioned the public and corporate bodies against entering into agreements with the group in the name of the national student union.
The Union said it had become aware that the entity had engaged in corporate arrangements, including a purported Memorandum of Understanding with the Jospong Group of Companies, and was planning to launch an unauthorized digital platform on March 7, 2026.
According to NUGS, such engagements are not binding on the official student body.
The Secretariat also warned that any website or social media platform not explicitly endorsed by the Union is unofficial and should not be trusted to collect student data, solicit partnerships, or facilitate agreements on behalf of Ghanaian students.
Meanwhile, the union has officially announced the establishment of NUGS-Germany, a new chapter that will serve as the sole constitutionally recognized representative body for Ghanaian students studying in Germany.
According to the statement, the chapter will operate under the authority of the NUGS National Secretariat in Accra and will serve as the official liaison between Ghanaian students in Germany, the Ghana Embassy in Berlin, and the Government of Ghana.
To steer the affairs of the new chapter, a five-member executive committee has been appointed. They include Patrick Sarpong as President, Simeon Mede as General Secretary, Emma Linda Arthur Blankson as Secretary for Women’s Development, Sampson Addei Boakye as Secretary for Programs and Projects, and Hawa Rose Ibrahim as Secretary for Finance.
NUGS indicated that all recognized executives of the Germany chapter will be issued official institutional identification cards, urging students and stakeholders to transact business only with individuals who possess the official identification.
The Secretariat further emphasized that NUGS-Germany is not currently undertaking any fundraising activities and advised students and parents to disregard any requests for funds in the name of the Union.
NUGS encouraged Ghanaian students across the sixteen states of Germany to rally behind the new chapter in a bid to strengthen unity and representation among Ghanaian students in the diaspora.
