Gospel legend Yaw Sarpong to be laid to rest in May

The family of late gospel icon Yaw Sarpong has announced details of his final funeral rites following his passing at the age of 63.



According to the family, the funeral activities will commence with a wake-keeping on Friday, May 8, 2026. This will be followed by a lying-in-state on Saturday, May 9, at the Asuofua Town Park, where the burial service and final funeral rites will also be held.

A thanksgiving service is scheduled for Sunday, May 10, at Sokoban-Ampayoo. Mourners are expected to return to the Asuofua Town Park at 12:00 pm the same day for additional funeral proceedings.

The family has outlined a dress code for the occasion, requesting attendees to wear red and black for the burial on Saturday, and white and black for the thanksgiving service on Sunday

Yaw Sarpong, founder and leader of the Asomafo Band, is widely celebrated for his immense contribution to gospel music in Ghana.

His legacy continues to resonate across generations, with many remembering him for his impactful songs and dedication to ministry through music.
