Asokwa Municipal Assembly Makes History with Top Three National Ranking in 2025 PFM Compliance League Table

The Asokwa Municipal Assembly has recorded a historic milestone after being ranked the third-best Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembly (MMDA) in Ghana in the 2025 Public Financial Management Compliance League Table (PFMCLT).

The Assembly’s outstanding performance represents a remarkable turnaround, climbing from 46th position in 2024 to 3rd place this year among all 261 MMDAs across the country. The achievement reflects a significant improvement in financial management practices and reinforces Asokwa’s growing reputation as one of Ghana’s most efficiently managed local authorities.

The Public Financial Management Compliance League Table is an initiative funded by the European Union and implemented by the Centre for Local Governance Advocacy (CLGA). The programme evaluates assemblies on how effectively they comply with public financial management regulations, including budgeting, procurement, revenue mobilization, expenditure control and financial reporting. Its goal is to strengthen transparency, accountability and prudent management of public resources within local government institutions.

Asokwa earned an impressive score of 92.00 percent, finishing behind only Bia East District Assembly, which secured first place with 94.50 percent, and Nkwanta South Municipal Assembly, which placed second with 93.50 percent. The municipality’s performance was also significantly higher than the national average score of 56.20 percent, underscoring the Assembly’s commitment to excellence.

The national recognition was marked with the presentation of an award plaque during an official ceremony. The award was presented by Hon. Gladys G.N. Tetteh, Deputy Executive Director of CLGA, under the project theme, “Strengthening Compliance, Enhancing Accountability.” The accompanying citation commended the Assembly for its unwavering commitment to improving public financial management and ensuring compliance throughout the financial management cycle.

The impressive rise has been widely attributed to the visionary leadership of the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Amoh Kamel, whose administration has consistently emphasized accountability, fiscal discipline and effective governance. Through strategic reforms, improved financial oversight and close collaboration with the Assembly’s finance and administrative departments, Asokwa has achieved results that now place it among the country’s elite local government institutions.

The Assembly’s success demonstrates that purposeful leadership, dedicated public servants and sound financial systems can deliver measurable improvements within a relatively short period. Rising 43 places in just one year is a testament to hard work, determination and an unwavering commitment to responsible governance.

For the people of Asokwa, this achievement is more than a national award—it is a reflection of an Assembly that is increasingly focused on transparency, efficiency and delivering value for public resources. It also strengthens public confidence in local governance and inspires other assemblies to pursue higher standards of accountability.

While this achievement is worthy of celebration, it also sets an even higher benchmark for the future. With its current momentum, Asokwa Municipal Assembly is well-positioned to compete for the number one spot in subsequent editions of the Public Financial Management Compliance League Table.

Congratulations to Hon. Amoh Kamel, the management, staff and the entire Asokwa Municipal Assembly for this remarkable national achievement. Their success is a proud moment for Asokwa and a shining example of effective local governance in Ghana.
